He, along with Hank Aaron and Willie Mays, holds the Major League Baseball record for the most All-Star Games he has participated in (24). Having won his second World Series title in 1944, Musial was called up to serve in the United States Navy for the full 1945 season. When he returned to baseball in 1946, Musial was able to regain his regular hitting form. That year, he won his second MVP award as well as his third World Series championship. His third MVP title came in 1948, when he fell one home run short of being the first player to capture the Triple Crown of baseball. Musial hired a personal trainer to help him stay productive after struggling offensively in 1959.
