ASU student reports sexual assault WSOC TV
A female ASU student reported to University Police on Monday that she was sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance March 1, according to police.
The student reported that the assault occurred in a residence hall on the west side of campus.
BOONE, N.C. — University Police notified the campus of the assault as required by federal law in an email to campus and an online post Tuesday at http://police.appstate.edu .
Representatives from the police department were not immediately available Wednesday to provide more information.
The department offered these tips on staying safe:
— Be careful when inviting someone into your room or apartment or when going into someone else's room or apartment. This is where most sexual assaults occur.
— Trust your instincts. If you don't feel comfortable in a situation, leave.
— Always be aware of your surroundings.
— Do not hesitate to call police if you feel you are in an uncomfortable situation.
